UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team will travel to participate in the nation's largest volleyball tournament this weekend, the sixth-annual GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Challenge. The tournament, which consists of 16 teams from both the GLIAC and GLVC, will take place Friday and Saturday (Oct. 25-26).
The Cardinals (12-7, 7-4 GLIAC) enter the event as the #7 seed from the GLIAC. SVSU will face #6 Missouri S&T Friday at 2:30 pm, which will be its only match on Friday. On Saturday, Saginaw will take-on #4 Southern Indiana at 10:30 am and #8 Missouri-St. Louis at 4:00 pm.
The only opponent of the three that SVSU has played in 2013 is Missouri-St. Louis, which beat the Cardinals by a 3-0 score in the opening match of the season at the Ferris State Bulldog Invitational.
The two-day tournament will feature 48 total matches conducted on eight courts at one of the top volleyball facilities in the country, the Great Lakes Center in Aurora, Ill. The event, designed to increase intraconference competition between teams from the two leagues in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region, has previously been held in Indianapolis, Ind. and Lansing, Mich.
