Cardinals Fall To Dragons, 3-1

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to the visiting Tiffin University Dragons on Sunday afternoon (10/31).  The loss puts the Cardinals at 12-11 overall on the season and 7-9 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play while Tiffin improves to 12-14 overall and 8-8 in league contests.

Tiffin claimed the opening set by a score of 25-21 and would take the second by a 25-22 count.  SVSU would rebound for a 25-16 victory in the third frame before the Dragons closed the match out with a 25-23 final set victory.

Chili's "Player of the Match" Becky Schroeder (Owosso, Mich.) hit for a .312 percentage while posting eight kills and a team-high three blocks.  Jessica Treiber (Sebewaing, Mich./USA HS) recorded 13 kills while hitting .303 and posting two blocks.  Annie Buxton (Aurora, Ont./Aurora SS) had a match-high 14 kills and Katie Fitzgerald (Whitby, Ont./Sinclair SS) had 12.  Laura Ward (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland HS) had a match-high 22 digs to anchor the Cardinal defense.  Sam Breault (Bad Axe, Mich.) had a match-high 48 assists for SVSU.

The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday (11/3), as they travel to Ferris State University for a 7:00 pm match-up.  The Bulldogs won the first meeting between the two teams earlier this season, taking a 3-2 decision on October 3rd.
