Volleyball Defeats Ohio Dominican, 3-1

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team defeated the visiting Ohio Dominican Panthers on Friday night (10/29), 3-1.  The victory improves the Cardinals to 12-10 overall on the season and 7-8 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play while the Panthers fall to 7-15 overall and 2-12 in the GLIAC.

Ohio Dominican came out swinging, taking the first set by a score of 25-23.  The Cardinals would rebound for a 25-21 victory to even things up after the second frame.  SVSU would then close-out the match by taking sets two and three by scores of 25-15 and 25-18, respectively.

Chili's "Player of the Match" Jessica Treiber (Sebewaing, Mich./USA HS) had 15 kills offensively to go along with six digs and a pair of blocks.  Annie Buxton (Aurora, Ont./Aurora SS) had a match-high 22 kills while hitting .333 on the night, adding 20 digs and four blocks.  Katie Maciejewski (Laingsburg, Mich.) added a dozen kills and 14 digs for the Cardinals, who hit .244 as a squad against the Panthers.  Sam Breault (Bad Axe, Mich.) had 50 assists, while Laura Ward (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland HS) had a match-high 21 digs.

The Cardinals are back in action on Sunday, as they welcome Tiffin University in a 2:00 pm match-up.  The match rounds-out the "Dig for a Cure" weekend for the Cardinals, as they are selling T-shirts to raise money for the Dig for a Cure Foundation and wearing pink warm-ups to pay tribute.
