LANSING, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State
University volleyball team posted a 2-0 record for the opening day
at the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament, held at the Aim High
Complex in Lansing, Mich. The Cardinals defeated Drury University
(Mo.) by a score of 3-0 before defeating Northern Kentucky
University by the same 3-0 score.
In the Drury match, SVSU was led by sophomore Annie Buxton
(Aurora, Ont.), who posted 10 kills, five digs and two blocks.
Senior Jaclyn
Carnago (St. Clair, Mich.) recorded eight kills and eight
blocks. Junior Jessica Treiber
(Unionville, Mich./USA H.S.) contributed seven kills and five
blocks to the effort. Sophomore Katie Fitzgerald
(Whitby, Ont./Sinclair SS) posted five kills and assisted on six
blocks while senior Kait Harris
(Essexville, Mich./Garber H.S.) and freshman Sam Breault (Bad Axe,
Mich.) had 18 and 11 assists, respectively.
Against Northern Kentucky, Buxton posted 12 kills as well as 12
digs and three blocks. Fitzgerald had nine kills and four blocks,
while sophomore Laura Ward (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland H.S.) and
senior Allison
Schlinkert (Marysville, Mich.) had 14 and 13 digs,
respectively. Harris had 32 assists in the three-set affair.
The Cardinals now have a 15-6 overall record on the season after
the the two victories over GLVC opponents, and will continue play
tomorrow afternoon at 12:30 pm against the University of
Indianapolis. The Greyhounds defeated SVSU earlier this year (Aug.
28) by a score of 3-1 at the Ferris State University Bulldog
Invitational.
