LANSING, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State
University volleyball team dropped a close 3-2 decision to the
University of Indianapolis Saturday afternoon (Oct. 17) at the 2009
GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament in Lansing, Mich. The Cardinals
took the first set by a score of 26-24 and dropped the second and
third by scores of 25-20 and 25-22, respectively. SVSU would come
back to take the fourth set, 25-23, before dropping the fifth and
final set by a 16-14 count.
Sophomore Annie
Buxton (Aurora, Ont.) led the offense with a match-high 16
kills and 14 digs while junior Jessica Treiber
(Unionville, Mich./USA H.S.) also had 16 kills. Senior Allison
Schlinkert (Marysville, Mich.) recorded 14 kills in the
Cardinal effort to go along with 11 digs and senior Jaclyn Carnago
(St. Clair, Mich.) had 10 kills. Sophomore Laura Ward (While
Lake, Mich./Lakeland H.S.) had a match-high 16 digs against the
Greyhounds.
Senior Kait
Harris (Essexville, Mich./Garber H.S.) recorded a match-high 61
assists and also added 11 digs in the five-set thriller. Harris was
also named to the 2009 Aasics Crossover All-Tournament Team, which
featured six players from each conference. She recorded 112 assists
in the three matches for the weekend, an average of 11.2 per set,
as well as 25 digs, an average of 2.5 per set from the setter
position.
The Cardinals’ record now slides to 15-7 overall on the
season after posting the 2-1 weekend at the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover.
SVSU will travel to the U.P. for matches against Northern Michigan
University Friday (Oct. 23) and Michigan Technological University
on Saturday (Oct. 24).
