UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team went 1-1 last week in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. The Cardinals defeated Purdue Northwest 60-49 on Thursday night, then fell to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside 59-57 on Saturday.
In Thursday's victory over the Pride, junior guard Kaitlyn Zarycki led SVSU with 18 points. She was 8-13 from the field and also posted five assists.
At Parkside on Saturday, she scored a game-high 27 points on 11-of-19 shooting, adding 10 rebounds for a double-double. Zarycki is 30 points away from 1,000 for her career with 970 after Saturday.
For her efforts this past weekend, Zarycki has been named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week for the fourth time this season.
The Niles, Mich., native currently leads the GLIAC in scoring at 21.6 points per game.
SVSU (RV) is 10-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
The Cardinals return home to face Ferris State University at 6 pm Thursday at the James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena.
