ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Saginaw Valley State University track and field teams opened the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship meet on Saturday at Grand Valley State University.
The men are currently fourth in the team standings with 16 points, while the women are sitting in second with 49 points.
Women's Highlights:
- Cheyenne Williamson won the pentathlon event with 3768 points. She also won the GLIAC title in the long jump with a leap of 5.89 meters.
- Taylor Lucas took third in the long jump with a mark of 5.32 meters.
- Ali Aldrich was third in the weight throw with a toss of 17.62 meters.
- In the 5000-meter run, Arianna Wegienka took home third-place in 17:12.78.
- The distance medley relay team of Jenna Picard, Alona Olshevska, Lauren Buckner, and Alexa Keiser placed second with a time of 11:48.72.
Men's Highlights:
- Thomas Hufton finished fourth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:34.10.
- In the pole vault, Deven Varela finished fifth with a mark of 4.30 meters.
- Dan Westarb earned a point with an eighth-place finish in the long jump. The senior posted a mark of 6.12 meters.
- Brendan Nesbitt, Dominic Suliman, Ryan Mixon, and Corey Bowers teamed up to finish third in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:00.51.
