BIG RAPIDS -- The SVSU Softball team fell in a pair of league contests at Ferris State University on Saturday (Apr. 21) in GLIAC action. The Cardinals dropped the opener by a 3-0 score before falling in the second contest by a 4-2 margin.
The Bulldogs scored the first run in the bottom of the 3rd for the 1-0 lead and would add another pair in the home half of the 5th to make the score 3-0.
That same 3-0 count would prove to be the final, as Ferris closed-out for the game one win.
Elayne Young (2-2) took the loss in the circle in the start, working 4.2 innings and allowing just two earned runs on eight hits with two walks.
Saginaw Valley got on the board first in the visitor half of the 3rd for the 1-0 lead when Hamilton ripped an RBI double to score Blasia Moyler.
The top half of the 4th saw the visitors extend the lead to 2-0 after Moyler returned the favor, scoring Aubree Mouthaan for the second run of the game and a 2-0 SV edge.
That lead held true until the bottom of the 6th when Ferris State scored four runs to take a 4-2 lead over the Cardinals.
That 4-2 lead proved to be the final of the second game and the Bulldogs posted the sweep over SVSU.
Moyler had a stellar game at the plate, going 3-3 with two doubles, an RBI and run scored. Hamilton had two hits with a double and RBI. Mouthaan, Rousse and Bachert added the other hits in the second game for the Cardinals.
Hannah Atwell (0-2) dropped the decision in the circle for SV, working 5.2 innings while allowing four runs on seven hits. She struck-out three and walked two.
