SVSU Golfers Sit 22nd after Day One of Regional No. 3

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team finished the first round of NCAA Midwest Regional No. 3 today (April 14). 

The Cardinals currently sit in 22nd place out of 31 teams with a 307 (+19) total after 18 holes of action. Missouri-St. Louis and Wayne State lead the way at 290 (+2) in the team competition.

Sophomore Wyatt Drost (Charlevoix, Mich.) led the way for SVSU on Sunday with a round of 1-over-par 73 and is currently in 20th position. Drost fired nines of 38-35 en route to his first round total.

Sophomore Micah Skidmore (Saginaw, Mich.) had a rough start to his first round with a 41 on the front nine while backing it up with a 36 coming in to finish at 77 (+5) and in a tie for 85th.

Kreg Sherman (Clio, Mich.) is tied for 100th position in the 156 player field after a round of 78 (+6) at Puragatory Golf Club.

Senior Dustin Vogl (Bay City, Mich. / Western) and junior Eric Gandy (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek) rounded out the SVSU lineup by firing a pair of 79s.

The SVSU golfers will be back in action tomorrow (April 15) for the final round of the NCAA Purgatory Regional in an attempt to make a charge up the leaderboard.
