SVSU Golfers Struggle on Final Day to Finish 16th at Regionals

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team completed Sunday's (April 7) final round with a 317 (+29) team total in difficult conditions finishing in 16th place with a 621 (+45) two-day total.

Senior Kreg Sherman (Clio, Mich.) and sophomore Micah Skidmore (Saginaw, Mich.) with rounds of 78 and 79, respectively, in the final round to finish in a tie for 52nd place with a total of 154 (+10).

Junior Eric Gandy (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek) was the only SVSU golfer to improve upon his first round (80) with a 6-over-par round of 78 in blustery conditions Sunday. Gandy finished at +14 in a tie for 79th position.

Senior Dustin Vogl (Bay City, Mich. / Western) and junior Adam Hansen (Auburn, Mich. / Bay City Western) both completed their final rounds in 82 strokes. Vogl finished at 158 (+14) in 79th place, while Hansen fell one stroke behind him at 159 (+15) in 89th position out of 120 golfers.

The Cardinals finished in sixth place in the same regional event last season.

The SVSU golfers will be back in action next Sunday (April 14) and Monday (April 15) for their final Midwest Regional of the year in Noblesville, Ind. at Purgatory Golf Course.
