COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team finished in fifth place at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Invitational over the weekend. The event was held at the par-72, 6,900 yard Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Ind.
The Cardinals finished with a 27-hole total of 482, which put them just two strokes behind host Wisconsin-Parkside. Bellarmine won the event, which was shortened due to inclement weather, with a total of 463.
Senior Mike Horn (Clarkston, Mich.) followed a first round 75 with a 38 on the final nine holes to finish with a 113, just one stroke behind the individual champions. Fellow senior Nate Kelly (Suttons Bay, Mich.) shot a 121 (77-44) to finish next for SVSU. Red-shirt freshman Adam Hansen (Auburn, Mich./Bay City Western HS) fired a 123 (82-41) and sophomore Eric Gandy (Midland, Mich./Bullock Creek HS) finished with a total of 125 (80-45) in the tournament. Sophomore Dan Warner (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill HS) also competed for the Cardinals, shooting a 129 (83-46).
SVSU is back in action April 2-3, as it competes in the NCAA Regional #2 Tournament, which will be held at the Cherry Blossom Country Club in Georgetown, Ky.
