KINCHELOE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University golf team sits in a tie for third place after the first round of action at the Lake Superior State University Invitational, held at the par-72, 6,945 yard Kincheloe Golf Course in Kincheloe, Mich. The Cardinals recorded a 301 total to tie with GLIAC newcomer Ohio Dominican in the third slot. SVSU sits two strokes off the pace of second place University of Findlay (299) and five behind tournament leader Tiffin University (296).
Senior Nate Kelly (Suttons Bay, Mich.) fired a 1-under 71 to sit in a tie for the lead after the first day with Dominican's Kevin Hartoin and Northwood's Ron Bonatz. Sophomore Dan Warner (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill HS) is currently tied for eighth after shooting a 74 (+2), while senior Mike Horn (Clarkston, Mich.) is tied for 13th after carding a 75 (+3). Red-shirt freshman Adam Hansen (Auburn, Mich./Bay City Western HS) and sophomore Dustin Vogl (Bay City, Mich./Bay City Western HS) shot rounds of 81 and 83, respectively to round-out the scoring for the Cardinals.
Second round action will commence Sunday morning.
