UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - With recent movement within NCAA DII, the Saginaw Valley State University football team has adjusted its schedule for the 2022 season, including the addition of two home games for the fall at Wickes Stadium.
The Cardinals originally were scheduled to open the 2022 season on the road at Lindenwood University. It was announced recently that Lindenwood has declared a move to NCAA DI starting in the fall. SVSU has added a home game to open 2022, as the Cardinals will now welcome West Virginia Wesleyan College. The opener will be played at 6 pm on Thursday, Sept. 1, serving as the 2022 Red Feather Classic.
Wee two will rematch against Bowie State University (No. 8 in the final national poll of 2021). The Cardinals host the Bulldogs at 6 pm on Sept. 10.
SVSU will be on the road for the next three, starting with the Axe Bowl at Northwood University on Sept. 17, followed by a non-conference matchup with Michigan Tech on Sept. 24 in Houghton, Mich. The 2022 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule opens for SVSU with the Battle of the Valleys against Grand Valley State University (No. 5 in the final DII National poll of 2021) on Oct. 1 in Allendale, Mich.
SVSU returns home to welcome the 2021 NCAA DII National Champion Ferris State University at 2 pm on Oct. 8 at Wickes Stadium.
SVSU has filled the bye week in the 2022 schedule with a matchup against the University of Indianapolis for Homecoming at 2 pm on Oct. 15.
Up next will be a road game at Wayne State University on Oct. 22, a home game with Davenport University at 1 pm on Oct. 29 for SVSU Band Day, and the Cardinal Athletic Hall of Fame celebration. The final road matchup of the regular season at Northern Michigan University will be on Oct. 5, followed by Senior Day against Michigan Tech at 1 pm on Oct. 12 at Wickes Stadium.
