Cardinal Hall of Fame Nomination Form

The Cardinal Hall of Fame is established to recognize and honor individuals who have made exemplary contributions to Saginaw Valley State University Athletics.   

Criteria for induction consideration are: 

Student-Athlete

  • The nominee must have attended Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU), competed for two (2) academic years, be in good standing with the University and be a graduate of SVSU.
  • The individual will be eligible for nomination after a minimum of five (5) years following the end of the nominee’s athletic career at SVSU. 
  • The nominee must have earned a minimum of two (2) letters in at least one (1) sport or one (1) letter in two (2) sports or participation at SVSU.
  • The nominee must have earned recognition for their athletic accomplishments while competing for SVSU.  For example: All-Conference, All-Region, All-American, Most Valuable Player(team).

Student-Athlete-Special Inductee

  • Through both the nominee's athletics achievement at SVSU and overall exemplary conduct as an ongoing promoter of SVSU Athletics' best interests, the nominee has earned distinction and recognition for the University.
  • In the estimation of the selection committee, the nominee's academic performance while attending SVSU was acceptable.
  • The individual will be eligible for nomination after a minimum of five (5) years following the end of the nominee’s athletic career at SVSU. 
  • The nominee must have earned a letter in at least one (1) sport at Saginaw Valley State University.
  • The nominee must have earned recognition for their athletic accomplishments while competing for SVSU.  For example: All-Conference, All-Region, All-American, Most Valuable Player(team).

Coach / Athletic Administrator

  • The nominee must have served the University for a minimum of three (3) years.
  • The nominee will be eligible one (1) year after leaving the University in good standing.

Team

  • The team must have won a regular season conference title, a conference tournament, a regional or national championship. National Tournament qualifying teams will be considered for induction. 
  • The team would be eligible five (5) years following the championship year(s).
 

Athletic Department Contributor

  • The nominee must have served a sport(s) program or the athletic department in an exceptional manner and need not be a graduate (alumni) of Saginaw Valley State University.
  • The nominee, if an employee, may be selected one (1) year after leaving the institution in good standing. 

Selection and Induction Process

  • Each committee member will have one (1) vote.
  • A simple majority is needed for a nominee to be inducted.
  • Each induction class will not exceed four  (4) individual student-athlete alumni, one (1) Student-Athlete Special Inductee, one (1) coach, one (1) team, and one (1) contributor.  
  • Once voted upon, the class must be approved by SVSU Administration.
  • The Hall of Fame Induction will take place annually during a home football game weekend.
