MIDLAND, Mich. — The Saginaw Valley State Volleyball team headed on their final road match of the season versus Northwood University. The Cardinals dropped the match 3-0 at NU's Riepma Arena.
With a stellar performance from the Timberwolves offensive line and a challenging set for the Cardinal attackers, Northwood jumped the gun with a 25-10 victory over SVSU, posting a .407 hitting percentage. The Timberwolves held the Cardinals to a -.091 hitting percentage.
Set two was a bounce back game for Saginaw Valley, with the team creating a huge 17-12 lead. Northwood snuck back in for the final 10 points of the match, knotting the score at 20-20. The Cardinals tried their best to stay on top, but the Timberwolves snuck out a late 25-23 victory due to an ace and an error from the SV offensive line.
With a hard set two loss on the Lady Cards, set three began to look similar to set one with the attacking errors becoming higher than the kills. Northwood went on an early 8-1 run to create a gap that could not be closed for the remainder of the match. Saginaw Valley dropped set three 25-13 and the match, 3-0.
Inside the Box Score:
• Senior McKenzie Schuster led the offense with seven kills.
• Hannah Tabit posted another double-double on the season with 16 assists and 12 digs.
• Libero Abbie Toland posted eight digs.
• Both teams each had 38 digs.
• Northwood led the offense with a .312 hitting percentage to the Cardinals' .011.
The Cardinals will head back home for the final game of the regular season. Saginaw Valley will take on Lake Superior State Saturday afternoon. The team will be recognizing its graduating senior class of two before the match with attacker McKenzie Schuster and libero Emily Nieman recieving the honors. First serve is set for 2 p.m. in Hamilton Gymnasium.
