UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team has been selected by the NCAA to participate in the 2011 NCAA Division II Regionals. The Cardinals earned the No. 7 seed in the Midwest Regional and will travel to play conference foe No. 2 Ferris State on Friday (Nov. 18) at Hillsdale College.
SVSU who finished the regular season with a 18-10 record overall and a school-best 15-4 record in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is making its first appearance in the NCAA Playoffs since 2009 and the third time in four years.
Ferris State finished the season with a 26-3 record overall and finished the conference schedule as co-champions of the GLIAC. They are making their sixteenth appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Earning the top seed in the region was Hillsdale (27-2), who will host the regional tournament. Indianapolis (21-7) and Northern Kentucky (25-5) claimed the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds in the region out of the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Lewis (25-5) grabbed the No. 5 seed while Southern Indiana (20-10) and Missouri S&T (24-9) are slated in the No. 6 and No. 8 positions, respectively.
