ERIE, Pa. -- The SVSU Women's Tennis team continued play in Erie, Pennsylvania, as the Cardinals faced Slippery Rock University on Saturday (Feb. 17) afternoon. The Cardinals, battling through a pair of forfeits, claimed a 5-4 victory over SRU. Slippery Rock is the No. 5 ranked team in the Atlantic Region.

Shea Donahue and Maddie Miller were victorious at the No. 1 Doubles slot, defeating their opponents by an 8-6 margin. Joanne Gao and Danielle Slonac followed suit at the No. 2 spot, posting a decisive 8-3 win over Slippery Rock.

The Cards would head into singles action up 2-1, as they had to forfeit the No. 3 match due to only having five players.

Miller was solid once again for the Cardinals, cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the No. 2 Singles position over the No. 19 ranked player in the Atlantic Region. Gao tacked-on another win for the Cards at No. 3, defeating her opponent by a 6-2, 6-4 score. Slonac then claimed a victory at No. 4, winning by a final score of 6-0, 6-3.

Those victories gave Saginaw Valley the win, as they dropped the No. 5 Singles match and had to forfeit at the No. 6 slot.

Shea Donahue, ranked No. 14 in the Midwest Region, had a three-set match against Lacey Cohen, who is the 11th-ranked player in the Atlantic Region. Donahue cruised to a 6-1 win in the opening set before Cohen bounced-back for a 6-4 win in set No. 2 to knot the match up. Cohen would then take the win with a narrow 6-4 win in the third set as well.
