MIDLAND, Mich. - The SVSU women's tennis team hosted the Grand Valley State University Lakers on Saturday (Sep. 17) afternoon in a GLIAC matchup. The match was played indoors at the Greater Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Michigan. The Lakers would come out on top in the final decision, posting a 6-3 victory over the Cardinals.
After a trio of competitive doubles matches, SV was able to come up with just one of the decisions, posting a victory at the no. 2 doubles spot in what was a back-and-forth effort that lasted more than and hour and 45 minutes. That victory was sealed by Izabella Ismailova and Danielle Slonac, who claimed a 9-8 decision after a 7-4 win in the tiebreaker.
The doubles play propelled the singles players to come out strong on the six courts. While every match was competitive, GVSU got ahead 4-1 at the no. 3 and no. 6 positions to post victories. The next came at no. 2 singles, where the Lakers claimed another close win to seal the overall victory.
With two matches remaining out there, Ismailova closed-out for a huge win at the no. 1 singles slot, posting a 6-1, 7-5 decision. Slonac would then work for a smart victory at the no. 5 singles spot, claiming a three-set thriller, 6-4, 3-6, 10-5.
