UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team signed two athletes for the 2012-13 tennis season. Signing with the Cardinals were athletes Erin Doud (Northville HS/Northville, Mich.) and Kelli Close (H.H. Dow HS/Midland, Mich.). Both new recruits look to help improve the young tennis program at Saginaw Valley in the upcoming season.
Doud comes to SVSU from Northville High School where she was named first and second team all-area, earned a conference and regional championship, and was also an All-State Honorable mention.
"I am very excited to add Erin to our roster. She is a strong competitor in both singles and doubles and I believe she will help us acheive our goal of a GLIAC Championship" stated Head Coach Jenn Boehm.
Future teammate, Close, comes to SVSU from H.H. Dow High School where she was a member of the State Championship tennis team her freshman year, helped her team to a State Runner-Up title the following year, was named to the All-Saginaw Valley Team, and was a three-time conference and regional champion.
"I have had the pleasure of watching Kelli grow as a tennis player and person. She comes from a State Championship level program and we expect her to make a huge impact in both singles and doubles" commented Jenn Boehm.
With the help of these talented new recruits, the Cardinals look to better their record of 6-9 overall and have an optimistic outlook for the upcoming 2012-13 season.
