Cardinals Fall to Northwood, 6-3

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team fell to Northwood University today (Sept. 10), 6-3 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) match.

The duo of senior Cortney Heileman (East China, Mich. / St. Clair HS) and freshman Charlotte Wong (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island/Colonel Gray Senior High) conquered their Northwood opponent 8-3 in no. 3 doubles.  Wong was also successful in no. 6 singles, defeating Northwood's Samara Paldinho by scores of 6-2 and 6-3.  Sophomore Yunjiao Shangguan (Chengdu, China / Shiyang HS) had a solid performance, posting a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Svenja Stephan in no. 1 singles.

With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 1-2 overall on the season and 1-2 in the GLIAC while Northwood moves to 1-0 on the season and 1-0 in the GLIAC.  The SVSU tennis team will return to action as they host Wayne State in a GLIAC match (Sept. 24) beginning at 2:00 pm.
