Tennis Drills Oilers, 8-1
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The SVSU tennis
squad got back on the winning track on Sunday at the expense of the
Findlay Oilers by a score of 8-1.
Senior Katie Hanover (St. John’s, Mich./St. John’s HS)
took her number 1 singles match in two set, winning 6-3 and 6-4,
after falling in her doubles match earlier in the afternoon when
she teamed up with junior Danielle Coldren (West Bloomfield,
Mich./Pontiac Notre Dame Prep), 9-8. Two singles Debra Hammond
(Grand Blanc, Mich.)took her match, 6-2 and 6-3 after winning her 2
doubles match wherev she teamed up with Sarah Campian (Troy, Mich.)
for an 8-2 win, Campian would win her five singles match by scores
of 6-1 and 6-1. Four singles Coldren defeated Candace Pahl in her
match by scores of 7-6, 4-6 and 10-6.
Sophomore Cortney Heileman (East China, Mich./St. Clair HS) won
her number three singles match 6-1, 6-2, and teamed up with
freshman Annessa Campian (Troy, Mich.) for an 8-3 doubles victory.
Jessica Stone (Flushing, Mich.) rounded out the singles action with
a 6-2 and 6-1 win.
SVSU moves to 2-5 while Findlay falls to 2-3 on the season. The
Cardinals return to action next Friday (Sept. 26) when they host
Wayne State University.
