Cardinals Continue to Roll, Defeat St. Ambrose 8-1
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Saginaw Valley State
University women’s tennis team took to the court for the
second time of the spring and continued to play at the high level
of day one, this time defeating St. Ambrose by a score of 8-1.
Katie Hanover (St. John’s, Mich./St. John’s HS) and
Danielle Coldren (West Bloomfield, Mich./Pontiac Notre Dame Prep)
defeated Sarafin and Foley by a score of 8-2 to get things started
in doubles action for the Cardinals. Debra Hammond (Grand Blanc,
Mich. /Grand Blanc HS) and Jessica Jones (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage
HS) defeated Bayer and Wagner by a score of 8-5 and teammates
Cortney Heilemann(East China, Mich. /St. Clair HS) and Natalie
Schifer (Frankenmuth, Mich.) would defeat Eberheardt and Anderson
8-2 to help complete the doubles sweep for the Cardinals.
In 1 singles Hanover defeated Amanda Gomez 6-4, 7-5 to help give
the Cardinals another great start in their singles action. In 2
singles Hammond would defeat Adrianne Foley 6-2, 7-5 and 3 singles
Heileman would coast by Rachel Sarafin 6-0, 6-2.
Coldren playing at the 4 singles would keep things moving for the
Cardinals as she defeated Jenelle Bayer 6-2, 6-3 in straight sets.
At the 5 singles Jones took her match against Liz Findley 7-5, 6-1
before 6 singles Natalie Schifer (Frankenmuth, Mich.) fell to Staci
Capenis 2-6, 7-6, 10-7, giving the Cardinals an 8-1 victory on day
two of their spring trip. Saginaw Valley will return to action
against Florida Tech on Wednesday afternoon.
