The Cardinals were first to get on the scoreboard as Sakura Bals found the back of the net on a pass from Jennifer Muana just 30 seconds into the first half. The Cardinals held Lakers off the scoreboard for the remainder of the first half as Alyssa Watts and the Cardinal defense kept 10 Laker scoring opportunities out of the net.
After the half, Grand Valley came out with a new game plan and their strategy worked as the Lakers scored two goals in a seven minute period taking a 2-1 lead. The Cardinal defense did what they could to stave off the attacking Lakers but GV would score again at the 58' mark to extend their lead, 3-1. The Lakers put the final goal in past the Cardinal defense at the 69' mark to put GVSU up, 4-1, this score held true through the end of the second half giving GVSU the win over the Cardinals.
