Cardinals win in OT against Michigan Tech

HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team swept weekend play in the U.P. with a big overtime win against Michigan Tech. With the two wins the Cardinals improve to 8-5 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

SVSU was first on the scoreboard with a very early goal coming in the second minute of play as Valentina Giambanco found Sakura Bals to put the Cardinals up, 1-0. This score would hold true through the remainder of the first half.

The Cardinals held MTU to two corner kicks in the first half and had five opportunities in comparison. The Huskies out-shot SVSU in the first half but Alyssa Watts was able to keep all four attempts she saw out of the goal.

The Huskies added a goal late in the second half at the 71' mark to knot the match, 1-1, and push the match into overtime. The Cardinals added eight shots, compared to the Huskies five, in the second half but were unable to find the net. SVSU would match their first half corner kicks in the second half but were unable to capitalize on any of the opportunities.

The Cardinals entered overtime hungry for a win as Sarah Fredrick fought her way through the defense to score an unassisted goal in the 91' mark to give SVSU the, 2-1, victory over the hosting MTU Huskies.
