Lady Cardinals defeat Wildcats in home regular season finale

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- The No. 22-ranked Cardinal Women's Soccer team hosted Northern Michigan University on senior day Sunday (Oct. 21) afternoon in the team's final regular season home contest of the 2018 season. After running out to a 4-1 lead in the match, the Cards fought-off a second half push from the Wildcats to post a 4-3 victory at Braddock Field.

Valentina Giambanco got the home team on the board at the 21' marker, making the score 1-0 after taking a pass from Molly Vanderhoff and putting one past the goalkeeper.

The Wildcats tied the score at 1-1 just over four minutes later when they took advantage of a handball in the box and converted on a penalty kick.

Vanderhoff would get on the board herself for SV at the 41:39 point, scoring to make the score 2-1 and send the match into halftime with that count.

Amy Babon got into the action in the second half for the Cardinals, using feeds from Lindsay Stroebel and Vanderhoff to score a pair of goals to push the lead out to 4-1 as the match reached the 70' marker.

The Wildcats scored a couple of goals to make things interesting, striking quick for one at the 79' point and another at the 82' marker to trim the deficit to 4-3.

Saginaw Valley was able to fend-off the visitors for the remainder of the contest, however, and sealed the 4-3 victory.
