Cardinals Fall to the Bulldogs, 2-1

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — Saginaw Valley Women's Soccer team fell to the Bulldogs of Ferris State Sunday afternoon, 2-1.  The Bulldogs now head to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in GLIAC play, while the Cardinals drop to 4-4 overall, 0-2 in the conference.

The Bulldogs came out strong in the first half, scoring on the Cardinal defense within the first ten minutes of play. Cardinals remained scoreless in the first half, posting four shots to FSU's 16.  Ferris State stayed tough in the second half, posting their second and final goal at the 65' mark. Allison Sims came through for Saginaw Valley late in the contest, posting the teams only goal with less than two minutes to spare. Even with SVSU out-shooting the Bulldogs in the second half 13-8, Ferris State took the victory, 2-1.

Inside the Boxscore

•  Isabel Bauer posted eight saves in her 70 minutes of play.
• Sims contributed two shots and the solo goal of the contest, her first of the 2017 season.
• Defender Molly Vanderhoff grabbed four shots, two on goal.
• Amanda Minissale grabbed an assist with the help of Sim's goal inside the box.

From Head Coach Michael O'Neill

"Today was no where near good enough. The team did not start the right way and we were under pressure for the first 25 which lead to Ferris getting on the board. It was a hot one but there was no excuses for our sluggishness and our lack of quality. The subs brought us energy and allowed us to steady the ship a little... The second goal came from a corner which is always tough to take as we practice those each week. The girls battled on and finished the game strong but it was a case of too little too late. We will regroup and go again Friday."

Up Next...

The Cardinals will head home to face Michigan Tech Friday beginning at noon. SVSU will play another home game Sunday at noon versus Northern Michigan. Both will be counted in conference play.
