SVSU picked 5th in GLIAC Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- The Saginaw Valley State University Women's Soccer team has been picked to finish in fifth place for the upcoming 2017 season in the annual GLIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. 

The Cardinals finished with 46 points in the poll, four behind fourth place Ferris State. Grand Valley was selected as the favorite wiht 81 points and nine first place nods. Ashland had 73 points with one first place vote and Michigan Tech received 62 points for a third place finish.

2017 Saginaw Valley State Preview

The SVSU Women's Soccer team looks to rebound from a year in which the Cardinals posted a 10-7-1 overall record. With many young players returning who gained valuable experience in the 2016 campaign, the team is poised to take a step forward in 2017.

Michael O'Neill returns for his fourth season leading SVSU and he welcomes back a strong group of returners. Sophomores Sakura Bals and Molly Vanderhoff will help lead the offensive attack while fellow sophomore Jennifer Muana will help anchor the defense after a stellar freshman campaign. She will be joined on the defensive end by senior Ingrid Hannevig. Senior Kristin Syrowik and sophomore Valentina Giambanco will also help lead on the offensive end. Abby Divozzo returns as a sophomore goalkeeper after gaining experience in two matches last season. She will compete with freshmen goalkeepers Alyssa Watts and Isabel Bauer for the position between the posts. 

Saginaw Valley begins its 2017 season with a pair of road games at Cedarville and Indianapolis. The Cards begin their home slate with contests against Ohio Dominican and Findlay before opening GLIAC play on the road at Northern Michigan on September 15.
