Pair of Second Half Goals Gives Women's Soccer 2-0 Victory at Findlay

FINDLAY, Ohio – The #21-ranked Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer took to the road for the third straight contest on Friday afternoon, defeating the University of Findlay Oilers by a score of 2-0 in GLIAC action.

The Cardinals and Oilers both showed strong defense in the first half as the teams were only able to manage a combined three shots on goal.  That put the score at 0-0 heading into the halftime break.

SVSU was able to find some offensive rhythm in the second half and broke the scoreless tie at the 63:39 mark.  Freshman midfielder Alexis Hilliard used a pass from Presley Tibbetts to beat the Findlay goalkeeper and put the Lady Cards up 1-0.  It was Hilliard's second goal of her freshman campaign.  Tibbetts recorded her team-high fifth assist on the play.

Saginaw Valley would strike again 52 seconds later at the 64:31 mark.  Annie Aubrey scored her second goal of the season when she put one in the right side of the net to extend the Cardinal lead to 2-0. Sophomore Emma Webster recorded her first career assist on the goal.

Claire Spleth was perfect in net again for the Cards as she made four saves in the contest.  She recorded her eighth shutout of the season and is only allowing 0.44 goals per game with a .920 save percentage this year.

The victory moves the Cardinals to 9-1-3 overall on the season and 7-1-2 in the GLIAC.  Findlay falls to 6-7-1 overall and 3-5-1 in GLIAC play.  SVSU is back in action next Thursday (10/30) when it hosts the Michigan Tech Huskies in a GLIAC matchup at 2:00 pm at SVSU's Braddock Field.
