COLUMBUS, Ohio - The #21 Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team played at Ohio Dominican University on Sunday (9/28) in a match-up of two of the top teams in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). In a hard-fought match between the conference foes, the end result was a 0-0 tie after neither team scored after regulation and a pair of overtime periods.
In the first half, Ohio Dominican had 11 shots compared to SVSU's four. Five of those 11 Panther shots were on goal and SVSU sophomore Claire Spleth saved all of them to preserve the 0-0 score heading into the break.
The Panthers had eight more shots in the second compared to a pair for the Cards. Each team had two of those shots on goal and both goalies continued their solid play, sending the game into overtime scoreless.
With just under a minute left in the opening OT period, SV's Alexis Hilliard put a shot on goal that was saved as well and the game went into a second overtime still at zeros.
Neither team even got a shot off in the second overtime and the match would end with a 0-0 draw after a full 110 minutes of play.
Spleth kept SVSU's record unbeaten on the year, as her record now stands at 5-0-2 overall while starting all seven matches. She had seven saves in the contest. Ohio Dominican is now 5-2-1 overall in 2014.
Hilliard had two of SVSU's three shots on goal for the match.
Saginaw Valley returns to the field on Friday (10/3), as it hosts Ashland University in a 1:00 pm contest at Braddock Field.
