Cardinals Fall To Central Michigan In Exhibition Contest

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team dropped an exhibition contest against Central Michigan University today (Nov. 1) by a score of 106-71.
SVSU went into the locker room down 60-38 at the half, but would respond by shooting 62.5 percent in the second half to outscore the Chippewas by a 41-38 count in the final 20 minutes. The Cardinals shot 53.1 percent for the entire contest, including a 53.3 mark from behind the arc.
The Cardinals were led offensively by freshman guard Aysha Boston (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance HS), who scored 16 points, including connecting on two of four three-point attempts while playing a game-high 32 minutes. Fellow freshman guard Jasmine Woods (Lansing, Mich./Holt HS) was next for SVSU, recording 15 points while connecting on five of seven shooting, including three of four from downtown. Senior forward Jenna Saarela (Saugatuck, Mich.) had eight points for the Cardinals while juniors Rhonda Gusa (Harbor Beach, Mich./Delta CC) and Tasha Balls (Bridgeport, Mich./Buena Vista HS) and freshman Grace Herzog (Linden, Mich./Powers Catholic HS) each had seven points. Gusa did most of the work on the glass for the Cardinals, recording eight rebounds while Herzog had seven.
SVSU will be in action next when it travels to the University of Detroit Mercy on Wednesday (Nov. 4) for an exhibition contest with the Titans.
