Cardinals Can't Fly Over Wildcats
MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State
women’s basketball team lost their second game in its Up
North trek to Northern Michigan University today (Jan. 24),
78-58.
The Cardinals got off to a slow start, falling behind by as many
as 11 in the first half, before going into the locker room with an
eight-point deficit, 28-20.
In the second half, SVSU pulled within two points with 16:41
remaining in the contest before the Wildcats went on an 8-0 run to
pull ahead 40-32, and the Cardinals wouldn’t get any closer
as the game wound down.
Saginaw Valley was led by senior point guard Tricia Everett
(Saginaw, Mich.) and junior forward Kelsey Mausolf (Port Hope,
Mich.) who each scored 14 points.
The loss drops the Cardinals record to 2-15 overall, and 1-11 in
the GLIAC, while Northern Michigan advances to 10-7 overall, and
5-7 in the GLIAC. SVSU will return to action at 6 p.m. on Jan. 29
at Hillsdale College.
