Cardinals opens indoor season with SVSU Classic

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track & field teams opened the 2020-21 indoor season, hosting Olivet College and Oakland University for the SVSU Classic Friday at the SVSU Fieldhouse.

The Cardinals got off to a strong start, as SVSU looks to round into form for Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competition later in the season followed by the 2021 NCAA Indoor National Championships.

Women's Highlights:

  • Alicia Aldrich hit the NCAA Provisional mark of 13.88m in the women's shot put, taking first place in the event. Aldrich just missed the provisional mark in the weight throw, winning with a best throw of 17.02m.

  • Ciera Weber and Brooke Sutyak each cleared a best height of 3.27 meters in the pole vault, finishing in a three-way tie for first with Oakland's Megan Kusler.

  • Cheyenne Williamson was first in the long jump with a distance of 1.64m. She also took first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.17.

  • Angelina Delbosque won the 60-meter dash in 8.11 seconds.

  • Alona Olshevska crossed the line first in 58.33 seconds in the 400-meter dash.

  • Cassie Campbell finished in 9.57 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles.

Men's Highlights:

  • CarLee Stimpfel won the 1-mile run in a time of 4:16.10.

  • Jared McLean crossed the line in 51.26 seconds to win the 400-meter dash.

  • Trevor Culpepper took the 60-meter dash in 6.97 seconds.

  • Ethan Engelhardt had an event-best of 1.86m in the high jump.

  • Clarence Corbett won the men's shot put with a best throw of 15.03m. He also took the weight throw with a throw of 15.70.

  • Bendan Nesbitt crossed the line in a time of 1:23.88 to narrowly take the 600-meter run over teammate Austin Rippee.

The Cardinals remain home to host the Doug Hansen Open Friday at the SVSU Fieldhouse.
