SVSU Swim & Dive Continues Competition at NCAA D II Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The SVSU swimming & diving squad continued with competition at the 2017 NCAA Division II Championships, held at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Cardinals are currently ranked 22nd overall as a team in the national event with 18 points after the second day of competition.

Day Two

For the second straight day, the Cardinals had a relay team score points in the consolation finals. Thursday, that event was the 400 medley relay, where Amanda Thielen, Lydia Mattar, Alexa Bloom and Melanie Soenksen finished 15th with a time of 3:50.38. That score notched four points for the team.

A pair of SVSU student-athletes swam in the 400 IM as well, with Mattar posting a 17th place showing with a time of 4:27.23 and Rebeca Martinez finishing 25th after her time of 4:30.98.

Saginaw Valley also had the 200 freestyle relay, finishing 31st. That finish was after Soenksen, Taylor Grashuis, Alexandra Davis and Bloom had a time of 1:37.38.

Up Next...

The team returns to the pool on Friday (Mar. 10), as Mattar will compete in the 100 breast, Thielen in the 100 backstroke and Shaun Yap will race in the 100 breaststroke.
