SVSU Swimming & Diving Wraps Up at Final Day of GLIAC Championships

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. -  The SVSU swimming & diving teams finished the fourth and final day of the 2016 GLIAC Championships this Saturday (Feb. 13). The women and men remained in their spots with the women finishing fourth at a final tally of 388.5 points and the men in sixth with 293.5 points.

In the men's 1,650 yard freestyle, Peter Lin finished ninth posting a time of 16:25.92. Tannier Peltier finished 12th with a time of 16:56.76, followed by Frederich Schulz in 13th at a time of 17:07.43.

Amanda Thielen recorded a NCAA B qualifying time and second place finish in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:59.96. Her time marked a new program record. Sarah Luciani finished 16th in the race, posting a time of 2:08.56.

In the women's 200 yard breaststroke, Lydia Mattar tied for fifth with a NCAA B qualifying mark and new program record time of 2:19.53. Carley Buechner finished 14th, recording a time of 2:27.82.

Shaun Yap recorded a time of 2:03.33 for a seventh place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke.

In the men's three meter diving, Max Buxton posted a fifth place finish and new program record mark with 421.40 points.

The women's 400 yard freestyle relay team of Taylor Grashuis, Chelsea Harmon, Melanie Soenksen and Alexandra Davis finished eighth and recorded a new program record with a time of 3:37.68.

The men's 400 yard free relay team of Shaun Yap, Michael Spears, Tanner Peltier and Dalton Pokley finished seventh and also posted a program record of 3:08.45.

Saginaw Valley will be back in the pool on March 9th for the NCAA Championships.
