SVSU Swimming & Diving Complete Day Three of the GLIAC Championships

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - The SVSU swimming & diving teams finished the third day of the 2016 GLIAC Championships on Friday (Feb. 12). The women stayed in fourth place, earning 317 points. The men also remained in their current spot at sixth with 218 points.

Alexandra Davis posted a sixth place finish in the 500 yard freestyle finals and a NCAA B qualifying mark with a time of 5:06.14.

In the men's 500 yard free, Peter Lin, Dalton Pokley and Tanner Peltier earned points for Saginaw Valley. Lin took fourth with a NCAA B qualifying time of 4:36.38. Pokley finished 14th in the consolation finals at a time of 4:45.90, followed by Peltier in 15th with 4:46.50.

Amanda Thielen recorded a NCAA B qualifying time in the 100 yard backstroke finals. Thielen's time of 55.89 earned her fourth place and a new program record.

Nicholas Berens took 14th in the 100 yard backstroke with a consolations finals time of 53.87.

In the 100 yard breaststroke, Lydia Mattar recorded a fifth place finish and a new program record of 1:04.57.

Shaun Yap took second and posted a NCAA B qualifying time of 54.80 in the 100 yard breaststroke. Tyler Miller tied for 14th in the consolation finals with a time of 57.67.

Rebeca Martinez came in fourth place in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.19.

In the consolation finals of the 200 yard fly, Michael Spears finished 10th at a mark of 1:53.19.

Kathleen Murphy finished eighth in the one meter diving event, notching a score of 347.25. Wilhelmina Francisco posted a ninth place finish in the preliminaries with a score of 355.55. Erica Wysocki finished 13th with 320.75 points and Mare Almhiemid finished 15th at 267.25 points.

The 800 yard freestyle relay team of Taylor Grashuis, Rebeca Martinez, Alexandra Davis and Amanda Thielen posted a fourth place finish and NCAA B qualifying time of 7:43.26. The time was also a program revord.

The men's team of Dalton Pokley, Nicholas Berens, Tanner Peltier and Peter Lin finished fifth in the 800 meter relay team with a new program record time of 6:59.85.

Saginaw Valley will be back in action tomorrow (Feb. 13) for the fourth and final day of the 2016 GLIAC Championships.
