Swimming & Diving Posts Victories at Tiffin
TIFFIN, Ohio – The SVSU swimming & diving team hit the road to officially open the 2015-16 on Saturday afternoon, as the Cardinals traveled to Tiffin University for a dual match with the Dragons. Saginaw Valley as impressive in both women's and men's action, posting victories with scores of 88-53 and 77-63 for the women and men, respectively.
The win for the men mark the first in the history of the new program in their first try. 

The women's 400 yard medley relay team of Amanda Thielen, Lydia Mattar, Sarah Luciani and Taylor Grashuis took first place and sealed five points for the team after posting a time of 4:04.74.

In the 1,000 yard freestyle event, the only two competitors were SVSU's Thielen and Carley Buechner, who turned in times of 10:45.70 and 11:40.06, respectively, to score for SV.

Grashuis and Alexandra Davis were both impressive in the 200 yard freestyle, claiming the top two spots. Grashius finished with a mark of 2:00.21 and Davis was just a fraction of a second behind at 2:00.66.

Kara Popps won the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.78 to seal five SVSU points while Mattar did the same in the 100 yard breaststroke with a mark of 1:07.25.

Chelsea Harmon and Melanie Soenksen finished in second and third in the 50 yard freestyle, turning in times of 25:64 and 25:95.

Harmon and Davis were second and third in the 100 yard freestyle with times of 56:59 and 56:82 for the Cards. Sarah Luciani and Popps were first and second in the 200 yard backstroke with final marks of 2:14.08 and 2:14.62.

Mattar and Buechner were one and two in the 200 yard breaststroke with final times of 2:27.11 and 2:35.18, respectively.

Thielen was the top finisher for SVSU in the 500 yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 5:15.16. She was followed by Davis, who ended in second with a 5:23.90.

Wilhelmina Francisco claimed the top spot in the three-meter diving event with a score of 224.65 while Erica Wysocki was third with a mark of 201.35. The pair was second and third in the one-meter event as well, finishing with scores of 222.20 and 195.30, respectively.

Mattar finished runner-up in the 200 IM race with a time of 2:15.49 while the 400 yard freestyle relay team, consisting of Grashuis, Harmon, Davis and Thielen, took first place with a time of 3:45.50 to finish the meet for the Lady Cards.

On the men's side, Peter Lin claimed victory in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 9:47.42 and he was part of the second place 400 yard medley relay team that finished second with a time of 3:32.16. He was joined by teammates Shaun Yap, Dalton Pokley and Grayson Arnold in that race.

Pokley and Tanner Peltier finished second and third in the 200 yard freestyle event, logging times of 1:49.17 and 1:51.06 for Saginaw Valley.

Yap claimed the top spot in the 100 yard breaststroke with a final mark of 56:34. Tyler Miller took third in the same event, posting a time of 1:01.76.

Maxwell Buxton finished first in the one-meter diving event with a score of 226.45. He finished first in the three meter event with a score of 245.10 as well.

Nick Berens finished runner-up in the 200 yard backstroke with a final time of 2:07.60.

In the 200 yard breaststroke, yap was first with a time of 2:06.06 and teammate Tyler Miller was third with a mark of 2:20.56.

The 500 yard freestyle saw Lin take the top spot with a time of 4:47.45 and Frederich Schulz was third with a mark of 5:06.03.

Pokley and Michael Spears claimed the top two spots in the 100 yard butterfly, posting times of 53:02 and 53:64 in the event while Yap was first in the 200 IM with a time of 1:56.7.

The men's 400 yard freestyle relay team of Arnold, Spears, Pokley and Lin finished second with a time of 3:17.30.

The team will be back in action on Saturday, October 24th when they host Urbana University at 2:00 p.m. at SVSU's Gerstacker Regional Aquatic Center.
