COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The SVSU Softball team traveled to play at Ohio Dominican on Friday (Mar. 15) in regional action in Columbus. The Panthers defeated the Cardinals on both ends of the doubleheader, defeating SV 11-3 in the opener and 10-3 in the nightcap.
After the home squad went for three runs in the bottom of the 1st, SVSU tied the contest up at 3-3 in the top of the 3rd when it got runs when Becky Corbett drove-in Alex Roob and Blasia Moyler drilled a two-run home run that plated Alicia Kolacki.
ODU answered to score four runs-apiece in the 4th and 5th innings, closing-out for the 11-3 win in five innings.
Moyler had the lone hit for the Cardinals in the contest and two RBI while Corbett had the other RBI. Alexis Cerven had a stolen base for Saginaw Valley. Kasey Bagelmann (0-1) took the loss, working 3.1 innings while allowing four runs (2 earned) on four hits with five strikeouts and a walk.
The Panthers scored a run in the home half of the 1st and took a 1-0 lead into the 2nd inning, only to see Shelby Misiak hit a two-run blast for the Cardinals that scored Aubree Mouthaan for the 2-1 edge.
Two runs in the 3rd and another in the 4th gave Ohio Dominican a 4-2 lead.
That lead was trimmed to 4-3 in the top of the 5th when Corbett hit an RBI double that pushed Cerven across to make the score 4-3.
In the bottom of the 6th, the home Panthers went off for six runs and closed-out SVSU in the 7th to claim the eventual 10-3 win.
Misiak was 2-3 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored. Corbett added two doubles with a run driven-in as well. Corbett and Cerved each stole a base for SVSU. Mikayla Alexandrou (2-1) took the loss pitching, working 5.0 innings. She allowed six runs on nine hits, striking-out three and walking two.
SVSU hosts GVSU on Wednesday (Mar. 20) in the GLIAC-opener at the SVSU Softball Complex. First pitch for the twinbill will be 3:30 p.m.
