ASHLAND, Ohio — The SVSU Softball team dropped a pair of contests to the Ashland Eagles Saturday (Apr. 28) afternoon. The Cardinals fall to 23-23 overall, 14-14 in GLIAC play, while the Eagles head to 13-13 in conference, 23-21 overall.
Game One: AU 4 - SVSU 2
Ashland landed on the scoreboard first in game one, knocking in two runs in first inning.
The teams remained scoreless for the next four innings until the top of the fifth where Maddy Burgess's sacrifice fly scored Becky Corbett. Danielle Hamilton's RBI single to left field then went on to score Julia Miller to knot up the score 2-2 against the Eagles.
In the bottom of the fifth, Ashland scored two to end up taking the contest 4-2 over the Cardinals.
Kasey Bagelmann (L, 2-3) took the loss for SVSU, working four innings, walking five and strikingout one.
Ashland's Laney Jones (W, 6-4) took the win after her complete game with seven strikeouts.
Game Two: AU 3 - SVSU 2
Within the first two innings of play, Ashland went up 2-0 over the Cardinals. Luckily, SVSU responded in the top of the third inning.
An Eagle homer in the bottom of the fifth ended up finalizing the count for the contest, giving the Eagles their second win on the day to sweep the Cardinals, 3-2.
Mikayla Alexandrou (L, 7-8) ended the day with a loss for SVSU pitching in relief, working 2.2 innings, striking out two batters.
Hannah Stroe (W, 9-9) pitched a complete game for the Eagles, striking out four and allowed eight hits.
The Cardinals will return home to play Wayne State in the final doubleheader of the season on Sunday (Apr. 29) afternoon at 12 p.m. Follow live at the links provided on the SVSU Softball page.
