Genther Honored for Academic Achievements

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University is proud to announce that the women’s cross country team has received All-Academic Team honors for both their work on the trails and in the classroom. Three cross country runners were also awarded All-Academic Individual Honors.

The Cardinals were given the Team award for meeting several different criteria, including finishing 12th in the Regional Cross Country meet and meeting the team criteria for Grade Point Average.

Along with the team award, Margaret Stalker (Oscoda, Mich.), Erin Dush (Sanford, Mich.) and Steve Genther (Laingsburg, Mich.) received awards for their individual achievements. Among the criteria for the individual award is a high grade point average and a high finish in the Regional Meet.

The awards come on the heels of another successful cross country season for Coach Jim Nesbitt. While the women finished in 12th place at the Great Lakes Regional meet, the men finished sixth in the event, with Nick Krus (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) qualifying for Nationals and finishing 65th in that meet.

The All-Academic Team awards are given by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coach’s Association. The women’s team and the three individuals were nominated by the SVSU Athletic Department.
