Tony Filipek is entering his second season as a member of the Saginaw Valley State University Track & Field coaching staff after graduating from SVSU with a degree in Exercise Science.
During his first season his athletes broke four school records (Indoor Mile/Indoor 800/Indoor Distance Medley Relay/ Outdoor 1500) and three qualified to compete at the NCAA DII National Indoor and Outdoor Championships where they received four All-American honors (Indoor 800 / Indoor Distance Medley Relay / Outdoor 800 / Outdoor 1500). He also had one athlete qualify to compete at the 2012 USA Junior Nationals in the 3,000-Meter.
Filipek had a very successful career as a middle distance runner for Saginaw Valley where he holds the indoor and outdoor 800-meter records. He also holds the indoor 800-meter GLIAC record and was a two-time All-American for SVSU. Before returning to Saginaw, Filipek had the opportunity to work with an elite team track and field team called the Indiana Invaders where he served as an intern. While interning with this group of elite athletes he helped develop training programs for the athletes and was able to work closely with them as a coach. Filipek also had the opportunity to intern with the 2010-11 SVSU track and field team where he helped coach one GLIAC Champion and had two athletes qualify for, and compete in, the NCAA DII National Championships.
