Cardinals play to third straight tie against Pride

FREELAND, Mich. – The recent trend for the Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team continued against Purdue Northwest with a sixth straight double-overtime game for the Cardinals Sunday at Freeland High School in Freeland, Mich.

The Cardinals played the Pride to a scoreless tie, the third straight draw for SVSU, which moves to 8-4-5 overall and 5-3-5 in a congested Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with one game remaining on the schedule.

The Cardinals had several great chances to break the scoreless tie in the contest, with the best opportunity coming in the second overtime period. Gabriello Calamita found a loose ball in the box and sent it towards goal. The PNW goalkeeper was able to catch the shot and narrowly stay out of the net, preserving the tie.

PNW outshot SVSU 16-14, while Robbie Baker led the Cardinals with seven shots in the game, including three on goal. Callum Harley made five saves in the game, earning the shutout.

SVSU closes the regular season against rival Northwood University at 1 pm on Thursday. The location of the game will be announced at a later date.
