Maziasz wins second GLIAC weekly honor

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – It was another week and another thrilling overtime win for the Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team against Davenport University at home on Saturday.

The Cardinals netted the game's lone goal on a penalty kick in the 104th minute, giving SVSU its third straight overtime victory and keeping the team perfect at 5-0-0.

Mason Maziasz, from Troy, Mich., kept the Cardinals in the game, denying all five Panther shots on goal. He made several crucial one-on-one saves in the game, including one brilliant effort in overtime just minutes before the game-winning goal.

For his efforts, Maziasz has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. The award is the second of the season for Maziasz and the fourth overall for the Cardinals in 2021.

SVSU looks to lock up the GLIAC regular-season championship with a road matchup at Purdue Northwest at 1 pm Sunday in Hammond, Ind.
