UNIVERSITY CENTER -- The Saginaw Valley State University Men's Soccer team has punched a ticket to the 2017 NCAA Division II Tournament, securing the No. 5 seed in the Midwest Region. The Cardinals will travel to West Virginia, where they will face No. 4 seed Davis & Elkins. The Cardinals will enter the matchup with a 13-4-1 overall record while the Senators are 14-3-2. SVSU was ranked No. 24 nationally in the most recent coaches' poll.

First kick for the match will be Friday (Nov. 10) at 7:00 p.m. The winner will advance to face No. 1 regional seed Ohio Valley in a 1:00 p.m. contest. The other half of the Midwest Regional bracket will be held at Rockhurst, where No. 3 Maryville will play No. 6 Indianapolis for a chance to advance to face Rockhurst on Sunday. All matches hosted by Ohio Valley will be played at Schoenbaum Stadium in Charleston, West Virginia.

The Cardinals had a stellar 2017 regular season, posting a 12-3-1 record while advancing as the No. 2 seed in the GLIAC Tournament. Saginaw Valley defeated Northern Michigan in the semifinals but fell to Davenport in the title match. SV earned the GLIAC automatic qualifier, as the Panthers are not eligible for NCAA postseason play.

SVSU led the league in goals scored (33) and allowed (11) throughout the regular season. The three regular season losses marked an all-time low for the program as well.

The postseason bid for SVSU is the program's sixth in the last seven years. Stay tuned to www.svsucardinals.com and @SVSUAthletics on twitter for all updates regarding the 2017 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament.
