MIDLAND - The nationally 19th-ranked SVSU's men's soccer team is set to compete in the 2015 GLIAC Men's Soccer tournament, which is being hosted at Northwood University beginning Friday, November 6th.
The Cardinals enter as the #2 seed and will face #3 seed Lake Erie Friday at 10:00 a.m. at NU's Dean Field. The winner of the first semifinals match will play the winner of #4 seed Tiffin and #1 seed and tournament host, Northwood. That game is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start time.
The championship match of the tournament is set for Sunday (Nov. 8) at 1:00 p.m.
The 2015 tournament marks the fourth consecutive for the Cardinals, who lost in last year's championship match to Northwood, 1-0. SVSU
This will be the fifth year in a row the Cardinals have made it to the final round of the GLIAC championships. In last year's tournament, SVSU defeated Tiffin in the semifinals and then fell to Northwood in the final, 1-0. SVSU has finished runner-up in the past two league tournaments after claiming the tournament championship in 2012.
Saginaw Valley carries a 14-3-0 overall record into Friday's contest while the Storm are 7-8-1 overall. The teams split the two meetings this season, both claiming 3-2 home victories.
Admission to the matches are $5.00 for adults, $2.00 for students with a valid ID and children. Kids age two and younger are free.
