UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw
Valley State University men’s soccer team tied the University
of Indianapolis on Saturday 2-2 at the SVSU Soccer Complex.
In a match that went to double-overtime, the Cardinals could not
capitalize on a late break away by senior forward Brent Walker
(Owosso, Mich./Owosso HS) that would have given SVSU the win.
During regulation, the Cardinals fell behind as the Greyhounds
struck first at the 33 minute mark. SVSU would go into the halftime
break down 1-0.
As the second half got underway, the Cardinals came out energized,
and found the back of the net at the 47 minute mark when Walker
tied the score at 1-1. However, eight minutes later, Indy buried
the ball behind sophomore goalkeeper Luke Deming (Thomas Township,
Mich./Freeland HS) to go ahead 2-1. It took the Cardinals 11
minutes to answer that goal when junior Vinny Vasilevski (Shelby
Township, Mich./Utica Eisenhower HS) gave the Cardinals the
tie.
SVSU moves to 2-5-2 overall, and 0-3 in the GLIAC as they next
face Davenport University at 4 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 8) at the SVSU
Soccer Complex.
