FINDLAY, Ohio – Coming off a tough loss
against Tiffin University on Friday, the Cardinals’
men’s soccer team got back to their winning ways by blowing
out Findlay University 4-1 on Sunday.
The Cardinals got on the board early when senior Brent Walker
(Owosso, Mich./Owosso HS) dribbled the ball 30 yards and beat
Oiler’s goalkeeper Daryl Lotz. Later in the first half,
Findlay had a penalty shot, and didn’t miss to knot the score
at 1-1. A mere20 seconds later, the Cardinals got back on top when
junior Vinny Vasilevski (Shelby Township, Mich./Utica Eisenhower
HS) scored at the 41:26 mark to take the SVSU to halftime with a
one-goal lead.
In the second half, the Cardinals extended their lead at the 56
minute mark with Larry Ferreira received the ball from Paul Gracyk
and put it passed Lotz. Vasilevski knotched his second goal of the
game at the 64 minute mark to round out the game’s
scoring.
The win boosts the Cardinals’ record to 4-6-1 overall, and
2-4 in the GLIAC, while Findlay goes to 6-6 overall, and 2-4 in the
GLIAC. SVSU will return to action Wednesday (Oct. 15) when the
Cardinals will face Rochester College in Rochester Hills, Mich.
