Title: Assistant Coach

Matt Pumford joins the SVSU Men's and Women's Golf programs as an assistant coach for the 2019-20 season. 

Pumford was recently the head coach at Freeland High School the past two years. He was named the Division 3 "Coach of the Year" in 2019 after leading the Falcons to their highest-ever finish of third at the MHSAA Championships. Freeland claimed the Tri Valley Conference title each of the past two seasons as well. 

Pumford was a Men's Golf student-athlete at Michigan State University from 1994-99. After his time playing for the Spartans, Matt played professionally for two years on mini tours. He is a six-time winner of the Saginaw District Championship Tournament. 

Pumford earned a bachelor's degree from Michigan State 1999 in Kinesiology and a master's degree of Educational Leadership from Saginaw Valley State University in 2007. 

He is a teacher at Bay City Public Schools at MacGregor Elementary, teaching Physical Education. 

Matt resides in Freeland with his wife Lacosta and three daughters, Olivia, Grace and Averie.
