LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Cardinal Men's Golf team finished-off what they started on Sunday (Mar. 18), using a five stroke lead on day one and completing the 2018 SVSU Spring Invitational with a one-stroke victory at the Kearney Hill Golf Links.
Saginaw Valley followed up an opening day score of 277 (-11) with a 293 on Sunday (+5), turning in a one stroke victory over Grand Valley State, which shot a four-under score on Sunday.
Dustin Pumford was the low man for the Cardinals in round two. After his first round 74 (+2), Pumford carded a three-under score of 69 to finish with a two day total of 143 (-1). He tied for ninth place overall.
Matching Pumford's ninth place overall finish were Austin Carter and Mason Motte, who shot 74 and 75, respectively, on Sunday. Carter put together rounds of 69-74 while Motte was 68-75 for their 143 totals.
Ryan Peruski followed his opening round of 66 with a 76 on Sunday, finishing 8th overall with a two day score of 142 (-2).
Jared Lyons shot a 75 on Sunday, finishing the team's scoring to help seal the victory. He shot rounds of 83-75 in Kentucky.
The victory for the Cardinals is the second of the 2017-18 campaign. They won the Ohio Valley Highlands Cup Challenge on Oct. 8.
Gunnar Stein bounced back from a tough day one to fire a two-under 70 on Sunday for the SVSU B team. Jordan Weaver added a score of 73 on day two while Wyatt Liston (76) and Alex Dice (77) also shot in the 70's to help lead the team to a 14th place finish.
SVSU returns to action Mar. 26-27 when the Cardinals participate in the Findlay Invitational. The event will take place at the University of Kentucky - Big Blue Course in Lexington, Kentucky.
