Cardinals Earn GCAA Team Academic Award; Skidmore Named All-America Scholar

NORMAN, Okla. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf program was honored this past week for its outstanding academic accomplishments during the 2014-15 season. The Cardinals earned Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Team Academic Honors for the season and senior Micah Skidmore was honored as a Cleveland Golf / Srixon All-America Scholar.

The Cardinals posted a 3.057 cumulative GPA for the 2014-15 campaign to earn the honor, which includes the GPA of every player on the team's official squad list. It's the sixth time the team has earned the honor in the seven years since the program's inception.

Skidmore was one of 91 players in all of Division II who met the criteria of being a junior or senior academically, competing in three full years at the collegiate level, participating in 50-percent of the team's competitive rounds, having a stroke-average under 78.0 and maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2. Recipients must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Micah led the Cardinals with a stroke average of 74.29 and he sits atop the record book for SVSU golf with the lowest stroke average for an individual career with a 74.3. He is a three-time All-Midwest Region selection and three-time All-GLIAC honoree.
