BAY CITY - The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team sits in fourth place following the opening round of the Al Watrous Intercollegiate. The event is hosted by SVSU and is being played at the Bay City Country Club.
The Cardinals shot an opening round 300 (+12) and sit six strokes off the pace set by Ferris State University, which shot a 294 (+6).
Senior Jeremy Schultz had the low round on the day for SV, carding a two-over 74 to sit in a tie for 14th place. Fellow seniors Wyatt Drost and Carter Marsh each had a 75, as they are tied for 24th overall. Junior Mitch Sikorski is tied for 30th after his opening round 76 and senior Micah Skidmore had a 77 (T36).
Sophomore Ryan Peruski leads the tourney after an opening round of 70 (-2), playing as an individual. Teammate and junior Ryan Thomas is also competing as an individual, as he sits in a tie for second with a one-under round of 71. Senior Taylor Walker is tied for 14th with Schultz after his first round score of 74.
Northwood (295) is in second place and Lake Superior State (298) is two strokes ahead of SVSU in the third slot.
The teams will return to the course with a 10:00 am start on Sunday.
